FIFA sanctions Algerian football federation after Bakary Gassama reports them

The Algerian Football Federation receives a fine from the Fifa disciplinary committee as a result of events that occurred during the Algerian- Cameroon playoff match on the 29th of March in Blida.

FIFA has decided to penalize the actions of some Algerian supporters who insisted that the refereeing of the match between the Indomitable Lions and Algeria was tainted by several negligences.

As reported by the Elkabi newspaper, a fine of 3000 swiss francs has been authorized for them following a report made by Bakari Gassama, the referee of the match.

After he reported that seats were flung at him during the game, the issue continued to attract attention. Rumours say that they were even shown kindness by FIFA as they risked an even higher fine and closed-door matches than what they got: “Throwing seats or any other object is an act punishable by a financial penalty for poor organisation of up to 200,000 Swiss francs, in addition to an obligation to play two matches behind closed doors”

However, Bakary Gassama spoke out about the accusations laid against him during that match. When asked by the Gambian daily The Standard, he asserted ” it doesn’t affect me. You often see this from losing teams. If they win, they consider you a good referee. If they lose, they say you’re bad”

To add up he said, “I hope this story will end as soon as possible to allow the Algerians and Cameroonians to prepare serenely for the two games in June, counting for the 2023 CAN qualifiers”.

It remains to be seen what the outcome will be of the FAF’s appeal concerning the Match against Cameroon. It is said that FIFA started evaluating the case since the 21st of April 2022.
