Hoes In Da Hood is a beautiful piece of art written by Shawntaye. This book has to be applauded because it basically brings out the reality of the society and possible consequences.

Hoes in Da Hood narrates a story of a twenty-years old lass who is filled with moral decadence and can do everything to satisfy her wants. It starts with the young lady in a hospital bed, pregnant and dumbfounded. Worst still, she doesn’t even know who the father of her baby is.

This takes the readers to the next level of revealing how and why she doesn’t know the father of her baby. Apparently, her mother was a hoe but little did she want her daughter to end up like her (having HIV). Niether did Treasure’s aunt, Tina.

Treasure finds herself ignoring the good guy, Cj who is genuinely in love with her to be with a guy Jonathan who though is the father of her 2 year old son, Latham, is a disgrace to manhood. He abuses her physically, morally and emotionally. Exactly why she was lost in thoughts at the hospital when she found out she was pregnant. I mean, how was she going to cope with two children given her financial status?

The strangest of it all is, Treasure was cheating on her bf Jonathan with his brother Keithan.

Lessons gotten from this book.

  • The World is morally decayed. Everyone is almost a hypocrite. Treasure fools most of the people around her, disrepects her family. Her friends anticipate and wish for her downfall. The author tries to bring out this hypocrisy trait of the universe via this character to ridicule and correct the ill of the society.
  • Whatever you put in the universe is exactly what you will receive. If you input good, good is what you shall receive. If otherwise, you end up like Treasure.
  • Basically love all and trust none.
