Lion Heart was disqualified from the Oscar Awards

First ever Nigerian movie submitted for the Oscar Awards was disqualified with claims that films in the categories it was submitted to must have predominantly a non-English dialogue track.

This decision has sparked criticisms from Lion Heart’s director. According to Genevieve Nnaji, the movie represents how Nigerians communicate.

The 95 minutes movie is largely in English,it has just 11 minutes of Igo.

Ava DuVernay the first black woman to direct an action film with a budget of over a $100 million took to her Twitter handle questioning Oscar’s decision and pointing out that English is Nigeria’s official language.
