Fernando Torres has hinted at a return to football by sharing a cryptic message on Instagram.
The former Liverpool striker retired from the sport in August 2019 after finishing his career in Japan with Sagan Tosu, but could be set for a sensational return.
Torres is yet to disclose which club he has joined, but told fans he would ‘communicate where’ he is planning to play on Friday.
Torres took to Instagram on Tuesday night to share a black and white image of himself wearing a no.9 shirt.
The picture had the accompanying caption: ‘I only understand life in one way – playing. That’s why I’ve decided to return’.
He went on to says that he would announce where his is planning to play in three days time.
He wrote: ‘This Friday I will communicate where’, before adding the following hashtage ‘#vuelveelniño’, which translated to #elniñoreturns’.
After hanging up his boots in 2019, the 37-year-old took the gym – with many fans praising his incredible body transformation.
Torres has always been remembered for being a lean, quick striker – not really known for his strength during his prime.
However, having started a coaching role with Atletico Madrid’s B team and being given time during lockdown to bulk up, the Spaniard developed a strong physique.
Torres will be hoping to use his new found strength on the pitch next season after making a u-turn on his retirement plans.
