Professor Gervais Mendo Ze is no more. According to David Eboutou, the former CEO of CRTV passed away on April 9, 2021 at the Yaoundé Central Hospital where he was receiving treatment.
The former Minister Delegate to the Minister of Communication has been imprisoned since 2014 in the central prison of Kondengui for embezzlement of public funds, to the tune of FCFA 18 billion, during his long stay at the national broadcasting office ( 1988-2005).
Weakened since his imprisonment, videos widely shared on social Media showed him dying a few days ago, being fed by one of his relatives.
Some political actors circulated information on social media about Gervais Mendo Ze being granted a presidential pardon, without the information confirmed though.
As a reminder, Gervais Mendo Ze was also a director and university professor, associate of French linguistics and stylistics. He joined the teaching staff of the Faculty of Letters of Yaoundé in 1974 at the age of 30. He died at the age of 77.
